I was impressed by this beer from my first sample and having to wait a week between drinks seemed an entirety. I was counting the days, like a kid waiting for Christmas. I think now even after four weeks in a row going back to the same pub, I can not wipe the smile off my dial. My drinking buddy and I discovered this beer just a little outside of Melbourne in Fitzroy at the Gertrude. It is called 4 pines Pale ale.
What you get is a refreshing, crisp hoppy blast up front followed by a light refreshing citrus flavouring at the end that is immensely enjoyable. It cleanses the palate and set’s you up for another swig. It has an ale texture about it, so it is very smooth and oozes quality. I have been drinking it on cold wintery nights here in Melbourne but still it has been very enjoyable. I believe this beer could be appreciated all year round.
Beer can excite the senses and this, 4 Pines transported me to another level. I was watching the world outside, steadily going by, really enjoying the beer and just couldn’t help but imagine I was somewhere else. I felt invigorated and had about me a sense of carefree nonchalance. (no opium detected)
I believe the 4 Pines story originates from a microbrewery in Manly, Sydney. Unfortunately I have not had the opportunity to sample their other beers but would gladly do so, if this pale ale is anything to go by. When you encounter a microbrewery and you find they have unlocked some good, fine beer you really hope, in this competitive environment that they can survive. I am not a religious man but I am more than happy to seek devine intervention for this brewery to succeed.
Really this beer was fantastic and I really implore you, if you have an opportunity to give it a go. Definitely 9.9 out of 10.
